As GDI expanded its development initiatives, managing consistent, secure, and scalable developer environments across onshore and offshore teams became increasingly challenging. The existing setup lacked the flexibility to support dynamic scaling, efficient resource allocation, and consistent workflows. Additionally, the reliance on Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) for development created inefficiencies in provisioning time and resource utilization, increasing operational costs.
GDI required a tailored solution to streamline its developer workflows, optimize resource management, and strengthen security controls while ensuring seamless integration with existing Azure infrastructure. The goal was to build an environment capable of supporting diverse development projects without compromising performance or security.
GDI's developers, onshore and offshore, were working out of Azure Virtual Desktop, which was slow to provision and inefficient to run for development work. The team created master images tailored to the onshore and offshore developers, pre-loaded with tools like Visual Studio and Azure DevOps, and configured Azure Dev Box to scale dynamically so resources track each project's demands instead of sitting at a fixed size.
Make provisioning fast and cost-aware
Template-based provisioning cut the manual configuration out of standing up an environment, and resource-deallocation policies stop idle Dev Boxes from quietly burning budget.
Secure every environment
Network isolation, role-based access control, and multi-factor authentication protect the developer environments, with end-to-end encryption for data at rest and in transit to meet GDI's security and compliance requirements.
Hand it over with documentation
BITSUMMIT trained GDI's teams to manage, provision, and scale Azure Dev Box, and delivered the low-level design, security policies, and operational guides they need to run and tune the platform themselves.
Developer environments that used to take real time to stand up now provision 50% faster, so GDI's onshore and offshore teams start projects sooner and lose less time to setup. Integrating the right tooling into the images streamlined their day-to-day work on top of that.
On cost, dynamic scaling and the removal of idle resources cut spend by 20%, and the environment scales cleanly as GDI onboards new teams and projects without added complexity.
